A traditional Greek walnut cake

Cream butter until white; add sugar and beat until dissolved; add the eggs one at a time and continue beating; add orange zest. In a separate bowl thoroughly combine remaining ingredients, then add to butter mixture and blend well. Pour into buttered 17x11 pan and bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool. Cut into squares and pour on the hot syrup (see below).

Karidopita Syrup

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick/cloves and pour over cool Karidopita. Enjoy!
